Description

Civil War-Era Infantry Regiment Drum With Painted Eagle. 16 ½-inches in diameter and 15 ¼-inches high. This regulation-style drum features a large hand-painted eagle and shield with a banner captioned "Regt. U.S. Infantry". The drum has round-head brass tacks arranged in designs around the vent hole. Of note, there are two original labels on the inside shell, one over the other. The bottom label is marked "A. Rogers" [Flushing, New York], while the top label can be partially read as "Hartogensis...Sporting Goods...600 E. Baltimore St." A modern label, written in blue ink, reads "Restored by / W. H. Reamer / May 1996 / Lancaster Co. / Pa." The leather ears are undoubtedly replaced but it is unknown what additional restoration was done. The rope may be original. The batter appears original but the lower skin appears replaced.

Condition: Very good as restored.
