Colt Wells Fargo Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver.

Serial no. 164118 [barrel, frame, triggerguard, cylinder and butt], .31 caliber, 3-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front sight. Originally blued and case-hardened finish. Inscribed cylinder scene. Top of barrel marked: ADDRESS SAML COLT / NEW YORK CITY. Left side of frame stamped: COLTS / PATENT. Smooth walnut one-piece grip. Brass gripstraps. Manufactured in 1860. This revolver has the distinctive octagonal barrel with no provision for loading lever and according to The Book of Colt Firearms by R.L. Wilson, the Wells Fargo model has been observed in the 164,000 serial range [pages 107 and 108]. Very desirable variation.

Condition: Fine. Retaining traces of original finish, the balance a smooth dark patina with signs of handling wear, age and fine patches of pitting. Backstrap and frontstrap with great silver-plating toning present. Dings and scuffs present to wood concentrating to bottom of grip. Action good. Lightly pitted bore.
