Dublin.A well done tiered multi-compartment case set of surgical and amputation instruments, set is almost complete with some vacancies; highlights includes a removable tray with multiple surgical knives such as scalpels and Liston-style examples mostly marked FANNIN along with other tools including a bullet extractor or ligature needle handle marked Maw, Son & Thompson [knurled metal]. The main lid compartment holds a large amputation saw, a metacarpal or small amputation saw and a Hey's saw [surgical saw] pieces appear unmarked. Fannin & Co., Dublin was a prominent Irish surgical-instrument maker (est. 1829) and supplier; they produced full amputation/surgical sets in the late-19th/early-20th century.
Condition: Very good as presented, with fair handling wear and use, some blades and tools have spots present due to storage. Handles with stress cracks and handling wear. We cannot confirm that every tool is original to the set, might have a few substitutions. The wooden case inside with moderate scuffs, some light tears, separations. The outer case with expected handling wear and moderate nicks to edges, stress to bottom as well with scuffs and marks. Key not present.
