[Pickett's Charge]: General James L. Kemper Document Signed [DS].
7 3/8" x 9 1/8" printed & manuscript document (retained copy of a voucher), Buena Vista, Mexico, June 2, 1848, signed "James L. Kemper/ Capt. & A.Q.M." It records payment of $52.11 for the services of teamster Santus Sunega. Normal folds with discoloration on lower horizontal fold, not affecting signature. Kemper was seriously wounded on the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg, while participating in Pickett's Charge. He was captured by Union troops, then rescued, then recaptured and later exchanged. He was the first post-Reconstruction governor of Virginia.
