Description

British Pattern 1853 Enlisted Dragoon Saber With Spurious Confederate Marking.
A British 1853 pattern cavalry sword with a 34 ΒΌ-inch ever-so-slightly curved single-edge blade. Obverse ricasso slightly mis-struck "CSA" in a rectangular box; reverse ricasso marked with an unevenly struck three line "COURTNEY & / TENNANT / CHARLES" within a rectangle. No other maker's mark visible (Mole, for example). The flat, iron-mounted knucklebow is joined by the two branches at the flat oval counterguard that terminates in a quillon ending in a flat disc. Original grips of checkered leather scales riveted to the tang of the blade with five small rivets. Hilt is missing its original washer pad. Iron pommel exhibits an unadorned single-domed cap. No scabbard.

Condition: About good. Blade with a mostly smooth dark patina with some light pitting and areas of surface rust. Loss to considerable portions of the grips.
