Gustave Young Engraved Colt Model 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver.
Serial no. 142557, .36 caliber, 7 1/2-inch octagonal barrel with German silver blade front sight and New York address. 4th model. The gun has extensive folitate and scroll-engraving by Gustave Young. Details of this recognizable style include scroll work with floral termination on the left side of the frame. Young's master touch is seen in the matching panels on the loading lever and barrel lug which extend over the barrel flats. Extremely handsome execution. Left side of frame marked: COLTS PATENT, with trigger guard marked 36 CAL. Cylinder with naval engagement scene and with all 6 safety pins. Silver plated large 4th Model brass trigger guard and backstrap. Antique Colt one-piece ivory grip. Left grip panel with raised carved Mexican eagle. This fine art handgun also includes on the backstrap, Mr. Young's recognizable fan pattern at the top and the iconic wolf's head on the hammer.

Condition: Very good. The surface a smooth gray-brown patina with scattered fine pitting. Cylinder scene is very strong. Grip has numerous classic age lines of antique ivory. Action crisp. Strong bore with moderate to heavy pitting. Front sight is a likely period replacement.
