Nathan Bedford Forrest: Personally-Owned China, Autograph and More.
Nice group of items related the the "Wizard of the Saddle". 1) 4" x 5" French porcelain oyster dish with gilt highlights around the edge. According to the accompanying Letter of Authenticity from James K. Bradley, the great-great grandson of Nathan Forrest, it was part of a set of ten "Old Paris Oyster Dishes" purchased circa 1860 by Forrest. 2) A $1000 bond of the "Selma, Marion and Memphis Railroad Company signed "N. B. Forrest" as President on recto and a second time on verso. 3) 4 3/4" x 7" bio of Forrest, issued as a tobacco premium (trimmed unevenly along right side). 4) 24-page pamphlet, "Report of the Secretary of War", Richmond, Virginia, April 28, 1864, referencing Forrest in glowing terms on the front page (disbound with foxing). 5) Composite CDV captioned "Generals of the South, No. III". 6) Vignette portrait CDV of Forrest with Anthony/Brady back mark.
