Description

U.S. Harpers Ferry Model 1842 Percussion Musket.

Unserialized, approximately .69 caliber, 42-inch barrel with fixed front sight and bayonet lug. Blued finish. Lock marked: HARPERS / FERRY / 1851. Smooth walnut straight stock with sling swivels and three barrel bands. Metal triggerguard, ramrod and U.S. stamped buttplate. Even though rifled weapons were more accurate, smoothbore muskets like M1842 were still used with tactics involving volley fire, massed infantry lines, close ranges, and with mixed ammunition schemes.

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a dark grey patina with areas of handling wear, age and patches of pitting. Scattered scuffs and dings present to wood, some cracks at buttplate. Action good. Moderately pitted bore.
