C.S.N. Stamped Colt Model 1851 Navy Single Action Revolver Attributed to Civil War Ram C.S.S. Chicora.Serial no. 26274 [barrel, frame, triggerguard, butt and cylinder], .36 caliber, 7 1/2-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front brass sight. Top of barrel marked: ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY. Blued and case-hardened finish. COLT'S / PATENT. Etched cylinder. Brass gripstraps. Smooth walnut one-piece grip. Butt marked: C.S.N. Base of grips stamped: C.S.S. CHICORA and RICHARD P. WISH. Manufactured in 1853.
Note: C.S.S. Chicora was an ironclad Confederate ram that fought in the American Civil War. Constructed under contract in Charleston, South Carolina in 1862.
Condition: Very good. Retaining some faint case colors, the balance a smooth grey patina with honest signs of age, handling wear and fine pitting. Some case colors remaining. Dings and scuffs present to wood. Action needs adjustment. Lightly pitted bore. Please note: Triggerguard, buttstrap and cylinder numbers appear to be restamped.
