Description
Colt Model 1851 Percussion Revolver.Serial no. 91228 [barrel, frame, triggerguard, cylinder and butt; wedge 1228], .36 caliber, 7 1/2-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front sight. Top of barrel marked: ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT. Blued and case-hardened finish. Etched cylinder scene. Left side of triggerguard stamped G and B. Left side of frame marked: COLTS / PATENT. Brass gripstraps. Smooth one-piece grip. Manufactured in 1859. From Opplemans Trading & Exchange Co.
The Colt 1851 Navy Revolver is one of the most iconic and widely used revolvers of the 19th century. Designed by Samuel Colt and introduced in 1850, the 1851 Navy became a staple sidearm for military officers, lawmen, and civilians alike during the American Civil War and the expansion of the American West.
Condition: Very good. Retaining approximately 10-20% thin blue finish with balance being a smooth grey patina with honest handling wear overall, age and patches of pitting. Nice plated toning to gripstrap and backstrap. Nice aging to grips with minor shrinkage. Hammer cocks but cylinder does not turn. Mechanism will need to be addressed by buyer. Bore ok.
