Description

Possibly Earliest Known Military Marked Carbine.

Martially Marked Spencer Repeating Arms Saddle Ring Carbine.

Serial no. 10519, .54 caliber, 22-inch barrel with fixed front sight and adjustable rear ladder sight. Saddle ring. Smooth walnut straight stock and fore-end. Sling swivel. Crescent metal buttplate. U.S. military cartouche present. Interesting to note, The military contract started at serial number 11,000, which makes us wonder if this was a preproduction sample or something special. Note: According to email correspondence with Roy Marcot, Firearms Historian and authority on Spencer Firearms, he writes to current consignor, "Yours is the lowest carbine serial number that we are aware of....Unfortunately, company records no longer exist, so we really don't know what serial number was first." Note: One of the most colorful, widely used and popular Civil War firearms........even gaining the personal endorsement of President Lincoln, according to Flayderman's [9B-086].

Condition: Finish primarily a bright grey patina with scattered areas of age, handling wear and patches of pitting. Heavy dings, scuffs and bruising present to wood. Gun appears original with no post-war upgrades such as Stabler cutoff, re-barreled and so on. Action good. Lightly pitted bore.
