European Pike Polearm.


Approximately 84-inches in overall length, 24-inch steel construction with a 10-inch double edge spearpoint blade. Together with a contemporary reproduction wooden shaft of 60-inches fastened to the metal. Appears to be from the Victorian Era. According to A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor Book by Stone, Pikes "were the spear of heavy infantry in early times.....The infantry were composed of musqueteers and pikemen, the latter protecting the former while they were reloading their guns" [figure 639]. This one in particular is of simple form.

Condition: Good to very good. Metal with handling age wear, slight bent to tip. Light to moderate pitting and surface rust present. Edges sharpened at some point. Wooden shaft with minor wear or handling. From the Sylver Schaller Collection.
