Indo-Persian Dahl Shield.

The shield, of circular convex form, has four domed floral bosses. Floral and foliage decorations throughout with a brass outlined edge. It measures approximately 19 1/2-inches in diameter. Backing fitted with four iron rings along with aftermarket leather holder, strap and cloth cushion. Probably 20th century. Note: According to Stone's Glossary, Dhal refers to the Indian Shield, but also used in Persia [sipar] and other countries between.

Condition: Good. Traces of inlay present. Shield had numerous dings and mars throughout. Cleaned at some point. Moderate pitting to metal backing, leather handle straps with age wear, cracks and separations. Cloth cushion fine. From the Sylver Schaller Collection.
