Description

Remarkable Pair of Bronze Cannons Modeled After 17th Century Continental Examples.

Identical in form and style with 28-inch (including the cascabels) cast bronze barrels, with a 3 5/8-inch diameter breech, 7/8-inch trunnions, and 1 1/2-inch bore. The bronze barrel has had many interesting details cast into its design including a royal crest on the top rear of the breech, and the date 1671. Figural dolphins and decorative bands add interest to the barrel. The barrels are mounted in wooden carriages which measure 34-inches in length. The outside edges of the carriages are decorated in simple relief carving. Two 12-inch wheels with studded copper rims are mounted to each carriage. The cannons have not been dated but exhibit excellent workmanship similar to that of 17th century styles and designs. Note: This pair would be a handsome addition to the "war room" or study.

Condition: The pair are in very good condition. Some casting flaws in the barrels. Wood with moderate wear and discoloration, some damage around corners and where wood sits. Cannons a bit loose overall.
