European Two-Handed Backsword.

Approximately 61-inches overall with a 48 1/2-inch straight double edge blade, no parrying hooks, [or Parierhaken in German]. Armorer's mark present on one side of the ricasso. Simple 14-inch curved and flared blade guard. Wooden 8 1/2-inch handle with two-stage leads to partially fluted iron pommel cap. Note: Also known as a Zweihänder or Beidhänder in German, these massive swords were not meant to be carried in sheaths, but rather across the shoulder like a halberd. Condition: Very good for its age and configuration, cleaned blade. Nicks and mars overall. The guard section with mottled patina. Finish primarily a smooth grey age patina with noticeable age wear and pitting. Cracking, discoloration and scuff spots to handle. The guard section, a bit lose. Nicotine stains present.
