Description

17th Century Style Embossed Pageant Shield.

Of typical form, Embossed and gilded shield decorated with Medusa's image [within a roped circular pattern] with raised split pattern around her to almost mimic a dramatic burst. Parts of shield and complete rim covered in round head studs. Traces of gilt present. Note: Medusa was a terrifying female creature from the Greek Mythology. After Medusa's death, her decapitated head continued to petrify those that looked at it. Backing, typical construction and covered in cloth with fringe pattern. Overall diameter is 21-inches. Weighs approximately 3-1/2 lbs.

Condition: Very good as presented. Nice patina overall with some bumps and bruising present. Loses and wear to backing.
