Description

17th Century Swept Hilt Rapier.

Approximately 43-inches overall with a 34 3/4-inch straight blade with a flattened diamond section. Maker is unknown, but workmanship is exquisite. Armorer's mark on ricasso. 7/8-inches at its widest. Grip is 4-inches long, square section with knuckle bow, gold color wire [brass]. Iron hilt with one forward curving quillon. Ovoid pommel, 1 1/2-inches high, 1 1/4-inch diameter. Note: Consignor notes mention, remarks from "GWILLIAM" that he bought at sale in Holland, thinks sword original and possibly North German. Sold together with photocopy of sales invoice from Edred Gwilliam, Antique Arms and Armour, Hungerford, Berkshire to current consignor describing the sword. Dated 23-10-82 [October 23, 1982]. In it, Edred states "17th Century Swept Hilt Rapier."

Condition: Good to very good with age wear. Showing an overall mottled gray patina on blade and hilt. Fine scratches present to metal. Crude metal and some pitting inside hilt.
