Description

Heavy Scottish Baskethilt Broadsword.

Approximately 36-inch double edge blade, retaining its full length. Blade is 1 1/2-inches wide at the base. Single central fuller on each side of the blade. Blade features an array of Armorer's mark [cross and orb similarities] and S X S X S X S X S on one side and similar with [sunbursts] obverse. Conical pommel with incised decoration. Horse hide grip with tooled wire braid. Heavy Edenborough pierced ornate large baskethilt with hearts. Unidentified brass inventory tag 15. Marked W A / S on baskethilt, possibly that of Walter Allen of Sterling c.1750.

Condition: Good to very good for its age. Scattered pitting throughout. Moderate wear overall blade. Some nicks and pitting to edge. Baskethilt with a mellow dark patina. Grip good with minor wear. Loss to tip of blade.
