Description

Contributors List to Ranch Songbook. This interesting piece of Western ephemera consists of a two-sided lettersheet of the "70 Teepee" ranch. The front page has a long list of over eighty song titles while the back page has a list of people who contributed or suggested songs for inclusion in the proposed songbook. Both the song titles and the names of the contributors are evocative and colorful. Some of the song titles include: Make Me a Cowboy First for Today, I'd Like to Be in Texas When They Windup in the Spring, Don't Go to the Black Hills, Black Bart Po 8, Take Me Back to Old Montana, and Texas Rangers So Long. The contributors include: W. F. Cody, G. W. Lillie, Charles M. Russell, W. Herbert Dunton, Bill Pickett (the Black rodeo star), Bilious McDonald and Jim "Cookee" Bowman (the latter two identified as cowpunchers). Circa 1905-1910, there is some minor loss, as shown.
