Description

George Washington: Liverpool Jug. The front of the 8" pitcher shows Washington, a cherub, three female goddesses, the American flag and Phrygian Liberty cap (McCauley #57). An eagle and the names of fifteen states (corresponding to the period June 1792 to June 1796) line the outer perimeter. The back side has a poem mentioning Warren, Montgomery and Washington, titled "Independence". Unlike many such jugs, this particular design was likely issued during Washington's lifetime and presidency. Unfortunately, it is in a distressed condition. The bottom half has been broken off and re-glued. There are some hairline cracks near the handle and the spout, which itself has been poorly restored. The good news is that it can be fully restored if placed in the proper hands. It is subject to third party shipping charges.
