Description

Colonial America: Masonic Manuscript Document. 12.5" x 6.5" parchment document issued by a New York Masonic Lodge in 1773. It is titled: "In the East a place full of Light Where reigns silence and peace. And the Darkness Comprehended it Not". Embellished with hand-drawn Masonic symbols. Blue silk ribbon with red sealing wax seal attached through slits on the left side. This constitutes the acceptance of "Brother Meads Brasier" as an apprentice in the order. Ironically dated February 22, 1773, George Washington's birthday. Washington was the most prominent American Mason. The Bible he used to take the oath of office as President in 1789 was borrowed from the local Masonic Lodge... perhaps this very one.
