Description
Harry S. Truman: 1947 White House Christmas Gift Date Book. 4 1/4" x 2 1/2" spiral-bound booklet with leatherette cover stamped with the Presidential Seal and inscribed: "Merry Christmas from The President and Mrs. Truman 1947". The interior has three clear plastic leaves, one of which holds a calendar card for the year 1948. Mint condition with original envelope. Sold with a letter of provenance from third-generation White House employee Richard T. Muffler, describing how the gift was given to his father, John P. Muffler, Sr., who served under eleven presidents. The booklet was intended to house i.d. cards. Brown and Bigelow of St. Paul produced 760 of these at a cost of 8-cents each.
