Description
African American Murderer CDV. Carte-de-visite titled: "Clifton Haries, The West Auburn Murderer." It shows the young black man seated. In 1869, he was convicted of the rape and murder of two elderly white women in the town of West Auburn, Maine. He implicated a white accomplice, Luther Verrill, and two trials ensued, but it was Haries who confessed and faced the hangman's noose. Light soiling and minor loss to one corner of the albumen.Auction Info
