Description

Eugene V. Debs: Labor Related Silk Ribbon. 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" beige silk ribbon picturing "Eugene V. Debs" and titled "A. R. U." Debs was the president of the American Railway Union and was jailed for his "subversive" activities during the notorious Pullman Strike of 1891. During his incarceration, he converted to Socialism and went on to run for president as a Socialist five times. The ink is blue and the fabric a grosgrain material. Appropriately, there is a union label on the bottom ("look for the union label!"). Debs ribbons are extremely rare and desirable and this is the first example of this one we have seen. It is in mint condition.
