With a Preface to each Volume by an Immortal and a General Introduction Conveying Official Sanction by Gaston Boissier Secrétaire Perpétual de L'Académie Française. Paris: Maison Mazarin, [1905]. Richelieu Edition. One of fifty numbered sets signed by both Arnot and Boissier on the limitation page, of which this is number four. Twenty octavo volumes. Frontispiece portraits after various artists, with printed tissue guards. Bound in full black crushed levant morocco with gilt-tooled decorations, each with metal medallion portrait of Cardinal Richelieu set into front cover.More Information:
Spine with five raised bands, gilt-stamped fleurs-de-lys and titles. Gilt inner dentelles with green suede doublures and marbled free endpapers. Top edge gilt with others uncut. Slight shelf wear to volumes, mostly at corners, spines and extremities. Toning to pages edges. Occasional offsetting. Otherwise, an exquisitely bound set.
