Inscribed by Houdini on the front free endpaper: "Harry Handcuff Houdini/Southhampton England/August 26/09"). Above Houdini's inscription is written in another hand: "John Langford/from/[underline]". From the library of prison warden Lewis E. Lawes, of Sing Sing Correctional Facility for twenty-one years, with his bookplate (he was also a published author, with four of his books or plays made into movies). Octavo. iv, 308, [16, ads] pages. Publisher's full brown cloth, covers and spine decoratively stamped in black and red, spine lettered in gilt. Spine darkened, binding quite worn, rear hinge starting, front free endpaper, and a few leaves after inscribed leaf are missing, inscribed leaf a bit loose, frontispiece also loose. Some gutters cracking, some foxing in text. Poor. It is interesting that a prison warden would have a book titled Wonderful Escapes.
