.Garth Williams. Illustrations #8/9, Charlotte's Web.Garth Williams. Original preliminary drawings for illustrations #8 and #9 (appearing on pages 20 and 21) of Charlotte's Web, 1952: Lurvy tries unsuccessfully to catch an escaping Wilbur as the Zuckermans look on. Pencil on paper. Two large sheets measuring 13.75 x 10.125 inches. The drawing of Mrs. Zuckerman is initialed by Williams and includes his notation, presumably to E. B. White, in ink: "This is Mrs. Zuckerman slightly different from ink. I'm sending this for you to see as a character not as a substitute drawing." Beneath that, in pencil, in another hand: "see attached ink drawing." The drawing of Lurvy, Mr. Zuckerman, and Wilbur is signed in full in pencil by Williams. A couple of tiny nicks and shallow folds. Both fine. From the Estate of Garth Williams.
