Specially-Bound Deluxe Edition Issued for Zane Grey's Personal Use, and Never Offered for Sale

Zane Grey. Tales of Fishing Virgin Seas. New York: Harper & Brothers, 1925. Deluxe leather-bound first edition, one of only a few copies issued by Harper for Grey's exclusive use and never offered for sale. Boldly signed by Grey in his signature purple ink on a front blank. Quarto. Color frontispiece only available in this deluxe edition, and not in the trade edition, and with ninety-nine sepia photographs by Grey and others. Drawings by Lillian Wilhelm Smith. Publisher's three-quarter gilt-stamped red morocco over marbled boards, with gilt spine titles inside five raised bands. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Uncut and partially unopened. Some bumping and rubbing to the edges. A few small abrasions to the leather. Very clean internally. A near fine copy. A previous bookseller's description laid in indicates this copy comes from the estate of Zane Grey's elder son, Romer. From a private collection in North Carolina.
