[4], 444 leaves, 135 leaves New Testament, [7] leaves first and second tables, Full-page engraved title, engraved full-page Genesis frontispiece, numerous decorations and initials, several small maps, one larger illustration depicting "The Vision," and numerous smaller engravings throughout. [bound with:] The Booke of Common Prayer, with the Psalter or Psalmes of David. Of that translation which is appointed to be used in Churches. London: Robert Barker, 1616. [63] pages. Full- page engraved title, numerous ornaments and initials. [bound with:] J.[ohn] Speed. The Genealogies Recorded in the Sacred Scriptures, according to every family and tribe. With the line of Jesus Christ Observed from Adam, to the Blessed Virgin Mary. [N.p.: N.p., n.d.]. 34 pages. Full-page engraved charts with numerous details and decorations. [bound with:] The Whole Booke of Psalmes. Collected into English Meeter, by Thomas Sternehold, John Hopkins, and others... London: Companie of Stationers, 1624. [1], 144 pages, [4] prayers, [1] table. Fifty-four engraved staves, title page seal, device, and ornaments. Spine tastefully rebacked with four raised bands, blind-stamped ruling and ornaments, morocco spine label with gilt-stamped titles and ruling. Period full leather boards with elaborate blind-tooled borders and ornaments. Covers rubbed and lightly abraded with bumped corners and shelfwear to bottom edge. Marbled endpapers. Some light foxing and toning throughout. Restoration to margins of first seven leaves, not affecting text, with last leaves showing some wear and minor wrinkling. Occasional contemporary handwriting and marginalia, most notably at title pages. Corners and fore-edges have small tears, minor holes or loss in several instances. Title page of Psalmes has missing torn piece across bottom margin, not affecting text. A few pages lightly dampstained in Psalmes. Light thumbsoiling present in places, but overall a very clean text. In two columns with sixty-four lines and shoulder notes, this volume has complementary texts, design, and wonderful illustrations. Bookplate of Frances Louisa Swayne, "lady traveller" and author of A Woman's Pleasure Trip in Somaliland, to the front pastedown. A very good copy. Herbert 348.Auction Info
