Peary, an American explorer who claimed to have been the first person--on April 6, 1909--to reach the North Pole, writes in part: "Kindly insert the following ad. Conspicuously . . . WANTED---- Twenty-eight foot, twenty-five foot and twenty foot New Bedford, or New London Whaleboats, new or second-hand. Address, stating price and where to be seen, 'Whaleboat', c/o Portland Daily Advertiser."
