Description

[Andrew Jackson]. Autograph Letter Signed with Assassination Attempt Content. Two pages with integral address leaf, 8" x 10", New York, February 9, 1835, to the author's son. He writes, in part: "I must inform you of a singular ocurance [sic] at Washington last week their [sic] was a man by the name of Richard Lawrence that tryed [sic] to shoot Mr. Jacson [sic] the President he had two Pistols loaded with balls and pecushion [percussion] caps he fired them both and neither of went of[f]. it was in the Capitol in the preasance [sic] of 2000 or 3000 people while attending a funeral..." Separation on folds in places; small hole from opening at the seal.
