[Jabez D. Hammond]. Letter to the Hon. John C. Calhoun, on the Annexation of Texas. Cooperstown: H. & E. Phinney, 1844. 8vo, 34 pages. Bound in green cloth over boards with spine label attached. According to Streeter, "Here in a document written after Polk's election he [Hammond] learnedly refutes various arguments for annexation . . . The Lamar Letter (No. 1517) is quoted to show that annexation will perpetuate slavery." Moderate to heavy foxing throughout.
