According to Streeter, "Here in a document written after Polk's election he [Hammond] learnedly refutes various arguments for annexation . . . The Lamar Letter (No. 1517) is quoted to show that annexation will perpetuate slavery." Moderate to heavy foxing throughout.Reference: Streeter 1503. Howes H142.
