One page, 12.5" x 7.75", May 13, 1747, Rhode Island; notifying William Brown that he has been "chosen unto the post and office of Lieutenant Colonel of the Regiment of Militia in the County of Providence and Town of Warren... you are to alarm and Gather together these Regiment under your command... and with them to the utmost of your Ability, you are to Resist, Expulse, Expel, Kill & Destroy... in order to preserve the Interest of His Majesty..." Countersigned by Thomas Ward as Secretary. With toning, and reinforcing at folds on the verso. Wax remnants from seal remain at left margin. A scarce appointment from the third (of four) Indian Wars in Colonial America.
