[Confederate Texas]. Pendleton Murrah Confederate Bond Signed "P. Murrah." One partially printed page, 9.25" x 7.75", Austin, May 11, 1865. Issued one day before the Battle of Palmito Ranch, the last battle of the Civil War, certifying that "...the State of Texas is indebted to J T & Wm Brady...in the sum of One Thousand Dollars...payable twelve years after the close of the present war, between the Confederate States of America and the United States of America...with interest, at Seven per cent per annum from the 30th day of Dec. 1864." Issued "...in accordance with an Act...providing for the purchase of Cotton by the State." Countersigned by state treasurer C. H. Randolph. Docketed on the verso. Uneven edges and toning.
