Description
U.S. Model 1898 Krag Bolt Action Rifle Converted to Carbine Configuration. Serial no. 311425, .30-40 caliber, 22 1/4-inch barrel with fixed front and adjustable type 1901 rear sights. Blued finish with casehardened receiver. Left side of receiver marked U.S. / MODEL 1898 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 311425. Walnut stock with faint inspector's cartouche and circle "P" firing proof. Hand guard is a modern replacement. Two barrel bands, stacking swivel and bayonet lug. Metal buttplate with trap.Condition: Very good as reconfigured. Retaining approximately 40-50% finish, the remainder worn smooth with scattered light pitting. Stock lightly sanded. Hand a modern replacement as noted. Crisp action. Dark bore but rifling distinct.
