Description

U.S. Springfield Model 1879 Trapdoor Rifle and Bayonet. Serial no. 218328, .45-70 caliber, 32 1/2-inch round barrel with fixed front sight. Blued with casehardened breechblock and tang. Walnut stock with two barrel bands, two sling swivels, stacking swivel, metal buttplate and cleaning rod. Faint 1882-dated cartouche and circle "P" firing proof. Sold with a Model 1873 socket bayonet complete with scabbard and integral leather frog.
Condition: Good. Finish worn to a smooth plum brown, worn at the muzzle. Stock with numerous dents and a 5-inch long gouge on the left wrist and significant wear at the heel of the stock. Mechanically sound. Bore clean. Bayonet's scabbard slightly bent preventing the bayonet from fully seating; lacking locking ring, otherwise good condition.
