Description

Early 18th Century Scottish Basket Hilt Broadsword. 39-inches overall with 32 3/4-inch double edged blade, that is 2 1/4-inch wide at the base. Blade employs five narrow deep fullers, the outer two only extend only 2-inches from the hilt, while the other three extend approximately 12-inches, the center fuller just slightly longer. Each side of blade marked with three die stamped marks, in line, of concentric decreasing size semicircles. Guard composed of separate pieces forged together. Multiple piercings, including hearts on the underside of the basket. All piercings with extensive hand cut edge decoration. Dome shaped pommel with incised line decoration, constructed without a capstan. Leather grip.
Condition: Very good. Blade overall smooth and grey with scattered salt and peppering. Basket interior with deep dark patina, exterior a smooth grey with noticeable salt and peppering. Leather is good.
