Description

Civil War General David Hunter War-Date Autograph Letter Signed, With Interesting Content. Measuring 7.5" x 9.75", in black ink on "Headquarters, Department of the South" letterhead, "Hilton Head, Port Royal, S.C., March 21,1863." Very fine except partially tape reinforced along lower fold line.

Major General Hunter writes to Gen. Rufus Saxton. He complains of a Col. White who neglected to relay an order, and of a Capt. Waterbury who declared it "inconvenient" to obey his order, and instructs Saxton to "order him to report immediately to the commanding officer of this post for trial." Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
