Description

Harry Truman Autograph Letter Signed "Uncle Harry". One page, 6.25" x 9.25", White House stationery, Washington D.C., May 31, 1951. Written to nephew J.C. Truman and reads in full: "You cancel your Raleigh reservations and come to the Blair House on June 10th. You'll stay in the same room you did before and you'll be free to do as you please. There just isn't any reason for you to go to a hotel. Hope your family are all well." Truman lived in Blair House for most of his Presidential term while the White House underwent extensive renovations. On November 1, 1950, two Puerto Rican nationalists made an attempt on Truman's life while he was in Blair House; one White House policeman was killed and several more injured as Truman witnessed the fracas from an upstairs window. A wonderful personal letter signed in a very jovial and charming way. In fine condition, with two horizontal mailing folds and a couple of mild creases.
