James Madison 1810 Officer Commission Document Signed. One page, partly printed on vellum, 14.5" x 17.5", Washington, June 1, 1810. A handsome document with engraved vignettes by I. Draper, appointing William Lavall "A Second Lieutenant in the third Regiment of Infantry" countersigned by W[illiam] Eustis as Secretary of War. Fair condition; minor foxing, weakness and separation at folds with various areas of paper loss, one affecting the "James Madison" signature slightly, still an attractive item for display. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
