Description

Texas Governor, 1863-1865 (Pendleton Murrah). In the Name and by the Authority of the State of Texas...Whereas, at an election held in the County of [Gonzalez] on the [1st] day of [August] 186[4] the Electors of said County, having confidence in the honesty and capacity of [M. H. Reaty?, possibly Beaty?] elected him to the office of [County Clerk].... Austin, September 9, 1864. Printed certificate completed in manuscript, signed at end by Governor Murrah. Very fine.

Signed by Texas Confederate Governor Murrah, with imprint below decorative border below: Buchanan, pr. (Texas Confederate, Austin). Handbook of Texas: "Murrah served as Governor during the most trying years of the Confederacy, November, 1863 to the break-up in June, 1865.... Murrah's administration was torn with strife and conflict...from beginning to end.
