Description

Very rare and in superb condition.

Regulation Issue U.S. Rifleman's Accoutrement Set. Generically, probably the rarest of the 19th century regulation accoutrement sets, this being an exceptional example. The white buff sling is near perfect, just some minor darkening and as sound and supple as the day it was made. Missing one leather adjusting loop on the flask sling otherwise complete and original in every respect. The sling has two ΒΌ" slits 1 13/16" apart to accommodate a plate. The flask is about perfect with nice dark untouched patina and absolutely no dents or seam openings. Circle of stars, triangular suspension loops, inspected WS on the body and marked N. P. Ames 1838 on the top and without question original to this set. The double gusset bag is very fine. Just some scattered crackling of the finish, most notable on the flap, but just a touch of flaking. Black lacquer roller buckles for sling attachment. Very sound, just missing the woven leather closure button, otherwise complete with all stitching tight and just a few edge chips. A truly exceptional example of this most rare U.S. accoutrement set.
