Terracotta Devil Trap Bowl
Middle East.
Ca. 5th century A.D.
6-3/4"D., 3-1/4"H.
Pottery bowl on rounded base having simply formed, flaring walls. The interior is decorated with old Aramaic script and a pictogram in the center, either dedicating a building or used to ward off evil spirits. Repaired from four original pieces with half of the rim and a small shard restored. Well preserved script.
