[Genre Literature]. [Anonymously Edited Anthology]. Stories by Foreign Authors. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1898-1901. First edition, mixed binding states. Small octavo, ten volumes, frontispiece with author portrait in each volume, original green cloth, front panels stamped in blind, spine panels stamped in gold. Cloth on most volumes a bit marked or stained, front free endpaper of French volume 2 missing, several stains to two leaves of volume 3, a sound, good reading set.

Complete set of the ten volumes collecting a total of fifty-one stories; three volumes of French, two volumes of German, and one each of Italian, Spanish, Scandinavian, Russian, and Polish/Greek/Belgian/Hungarian stories, including many supernatural tales. Two of the three French volumes are in a variant green cloth binding with the authors' names stamped in gold on the front panels (the others have the publisher's monogram blind-stamped on the front panels, priority if any, unknown to us). Three of the Italian stories were translated by Edith Wharton and appear here for the first time in print. Garrison B3.
