Description

Mercury-Redstone 3 (Freedom 7): Twelve Vintage Glossy Finish Photos of Alan Shepard Suiting Up, from the Personal Archives of NASA Legend Bill Taub. Ranging in size from 4" x 5.25" to 10.5" x 8", these B&W prints were taken in the early morning hours of May 5, 1961 as NASA prepared for their first manned space launch. Features candid images of Shepard hours before his historic launch. Five prints feature printed caption on verso. Some light corner bumps, overall very fine.

NOTE: The photos from this archive were the inspiration for the recent book by J. L. Pickering and John Bisney, Photographing America's First Astronauts, Project Mercury Through the Lens of Bill Taub. A beautiful book from the Purdue University Press. Highly recommended. From the Collection of J. L. Pickering
