Jules Verne. The Green Ray. London: Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, & Rivington, 1883. First edition in English, later issue with publication catalog dated "September 1883." Octavo. 185 x 130 mm. vii, 312 + 32 pages of advertisements. Complete with 44 full-page engravings, including frontispiece, as called for. Publisher's ochre pictorial cloth stamped in reddish-brown, green, and black with title lettered in gilt, gilt lettering on spine, lower board with picture-frame border in blind. Corners bumped and rubbed, light edgewear, light staining to spine, some soiling, rubbing to lower cover. Text block edges gilt, top edge dusted, green floral-patterned endpapers, hinges slightly cracked but holding, first few leaves slightly loose, light foxing to final few advertisement leaves. One of the most elusive Verne first editions, particularly in collectible condition.
