First edition. Octavo. 195 x 140 mm. [6], 289, [1, blank] pages. Publisher's orange cloth stamped in blue-gray, in a facsimile dust jacket. Moderate wear to extremities, corners bumped and rubbed, spine sunned, head and tail pushed with a few small tears. Text block edges toned, top edge soiled and stained, fore-edge and bottom edge untrimmed, somewhat shaken, hinges cracked, pasted summary to front pastedown, pencil notation to rear free endleaf recto. Pages generally toned throughout; scattered staining and thumbing, mainly to margins; some crinkling to page edges. Good.[Together With:] John Dickson Carr. The Crooked Hinge. London: Hamish Hamilton, 1938. First English edition. Octavo. 188 x 138 mm. [8], 303, [1, blank] pages. Publisher's bright green cloth stamped in blue to the spine, in the original illustrated dust jacket. Moderate edgewear, some scuffing, cloth somewhat mottled, spine sunned and dirt-stained, head and tail pushed, lower board slightly bowed, dirt-stained along edges. Text block edges toned and foxed, top edge soiled, shaken, off-setting to endpapers from jacket, presentation inscription to front free endleaf recto, bookseller notation to same, paper repair along bottom edge of title. Intermittent foxing throughout, mainly to margins. Dust jacket clipped, with heavy restorations along edges, toned and soiled all-over, scattered staining to rear flap. Good book in good dust jacket.
