47 Issues of Harper's Weekly Dated 1858 to 1899. 47 issues of Harper's Weekly, dated April 24, 1858 to June 3, 1899, with 17 Civil War-date issues.The Civil War issues feature articles on standard war-time news, including troop and supply movements, political happenings, and battle reports, as well as political essays, poetry, and stories. They also contain numerous full-page engravings depicting the war, including the Battle of Hoke's Run, the Battle of Winchester, the Battle of Baton Rouge, the Siege of Vicksburg, the Battle of Cold Harbor, and the Battle of Resaca, among others. An additional 11 issues are dated July to December 9, 1865, and contain writing on the state of affairs following Lincoln's assassination and the end of the war.
Non war-date issues feature reporting on a variety of topics including the Utah War, the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, the Spanish-American War, and the annexation of Hawaii.
Condition: Papers are generally clean and bright, with some scattered soiling, foxing, or staining; minor edgewear including some loss, occasionally affecting text.
