Description
The "Draft" in 1 7/8" Letters at the Top of this 9" X 12" Civil War Broadside, "in the 12th Ward will certainly take place in February next, unless citizens contribute to avoid same". Dated January 1, 1865, probably Philadelphia. Further states, "let all the Citizens...come forward, and the 12th Ward will be again free of Draft." Issued "By order of the Bounty Fund Committee." Perfect condition, archivally mounted and nicely framed. Interesting insight into the efforts of the citizenry to avoid the first military draft in US history.Auction Info
