Franklin D. Roosevelt. Typed Letter Signed. One page 4to, State of New York, Executive Chamber letterhead, June 17, 1932, before the 1932 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, to Mr. Frederick Smith of the Charlotte Observer in North Carolina. FDR writes: "My dear Mr. Smith:/ Just a line to say ‘Howdy' again, and to thank you for your letter and the clipping./ Whatever may be the outcome of the convention in Chicago, the last few weeks have shown me how many warm friends I have throughout the country and how loyal they are to me./ I deeply appreciate your letter and its expression of good will./ Yours very sincerely,/ Franklin D. Roosevelt." A very interesting letter going into the convention that ultimately nominated FDR for President, with interesting terminology including an uncharacteristic use of the term "Howdy" and references to the upcoming battle at the Democratic National Convention. A terrific and historic letter.
